Expulsion and Suspension

1.  Grounds for:

a.   In the principal’s office twice within a calendar month (30 days) for discipline reasons.

b.  Evidence of intoxication, possession or use of narcotics, unauthorized drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or the possession of firearms in a school building or on school grounds.  This applies to off campus if caught using them.

c.    Truancy

d.   Willful destruction or damage to school property.

e.   Violation of rules and regulations of the school.

f.    Serious misconduct of such nature that interferes with the legal and personal rights of others, specifically a right to an education, and which presents a danger to the health, safety, welfare, and morals to any person, including the offenders, in the school or at related school activities.

g.   Theft of personal or school property.

h.  Any committing of a crime in a school building or on school grounds.

i.    Insubordination

j.   Assault upon a student, a member of the faculty, administration, or other school employee or official.

k.  Any other sufficient grounds rendering the attendance of the student detrimental to the educational program of the school.

2.  Suspension Definition:

A suspension is defined as exclusion of a student not to exceed five consecutive school days or as the principal sees fit, from regular curricular activities, or from participation in extra-curricular activities either within or without the school.

Procedure:

a.  Effort will be made to notify the student’s parents or guardian by telephone of a suspension by suspending official (principal) at the time of the suspension.

b.  In the event that the student’s parents or guardians are not available for notification of the suspension at the time of the suspension, the student will remain in the building for the remainder of the day.

c.   Written notification of the reasons for and length of the suspension, and the procedures for re-admittance if applicable shall be mailed to the parents or guardian.

d.   The school board shall be notified, at the next regular meeting or special board meeting is necessary, of all suspensions and the reasons thereof.

The student will be readmitted to school following the expiration of the suspension and a meeting with the student, parent, and administration.
