DRESS CODE
All students must use discretion and good taste concerning the selection of their wardrobes. We believe that students at James Valley Christian School should present an appearance that is honoring to the Lord. The principle of modesty, appropriateness, cleanliness and neatness should be upheld. Students are to be attractive, not an attraction (I Peter 3:4,5).
The dress code applies to school related activities, unless otherwise indicated. Non-fleece sweats may be worn at activities.
GENERAL: 1. Dress up day - First Friday of the month is dress up day. The first Friday all girls must wear dresses and all boys must wear dress pants and shirt with tie (appropriately tied). Dress shoes must be worn. Flip-flops are not acceptable dress-up shoes. 2. Clothing bearing objectionable advertising, pictures, or slogans will not be permitted. 3. Clothes must not be excessively worn, frayed, or have holes in them. No work clothes or work uniforms are allowed. No sweatpants are allowed during school hours. 4. Tank tops as the outerwear are not to be worn. Shirts/blouses must be long enough so no skin shows above the waistband of the pants. No undergarments showing. 5. Shorts are allowed except during the winter months (November-March). Shorts-length policy – drop your arms to your side, your fingertips need to touch cloth. Denim or dress shorts only, no athletic shorts or cutoffs. 6. Hats/Caps cannot be worn in buildings during school hours. 7. Chains hanging from clothing will not be permitted. 8. Jewelry needs to be worn in moderation.
GIRLS 1. When wearing dresses they must be at least knee length. Dresses, shirts and blouses are not to be excessively low in front or back. "Skirt slits" must be modest. 2. Sundresses and see-through dresses or blouses will not be worn to school. 3. Formals and long dresses for special occasions must: have at least 1/2 inch of fabric connecting the front and back of the dress going over the shoulder, not be lower than 7 inches from the bottom of the neck on the back, must not be lower than 3 inches from the bottom of the neck in the front, have slits no higher than 3 inches above the knee. Hem length must be knee length.
BOYS 1. Shirts are to be buttoned to within one button of the top of the shirt. If other types of closures are used, they will be closed in proportion to buttoned shirts. No sleeveless shirts or undershirts can be worn as outer garments. 2. Hair must be neatly trimmed at all times regardless of length of hair. Hairstyles must not bring attention to ones self. You must be clean-shaven every day. Earrings are not permitted. 3. Flannel shirts (lined or quilted) worn as sweaters or coats are not permissible.
